And yeah ok so maybe I was telling the world about her in 2006 when I first had heard of her because of course you want her to do well. But only a few of them of them listened back then. The catch 22 is only now when she is on VH1 and Top 40 radio do they care. So on another level that sucks. But yay for her doing well she deserves too.

I guess one funny thing about the in store was when she was introducing the song Gravity and the audience gasped. And you knew that 95 percent of the people there had never gotten to see her live before because they were so excited. Yeah I get excited when I get to see her but there's never been any gasping. When I saw her back in October I told her she was getting all famous and she was like noooo. And Friday she was like "It's gotten so crazy."

She will be on Ellen Wednesday and I know they were very excited to to be doing the show. So if you're home when it's on try and catch that. Sara is infectious and you will love her. I think I like her so much not just cause she's talented but she's not afraid to be or say goofy things likes "That's Radical." and then she reassured me that yes she just said radical. I guess she's been watching ninja turtles or something.

Some pictures!

Alrighty! So that is it for now. I'm going to see the Kelly/Reba Tour Saturday in Bossier City. Should be fun! Hopefully I will have some pics I can post and I will definitely blog about it!

And one of the things I loved was being backstage too shoot this I got to see that she herself touched up her own make up before she went out on stage. Which I think is great. I highly suggest going to see her if ever given the chance if you like the Broadway genre. She does a lot of Rogers and Hammerstein and Sondheim stuff. But fabulous and very much the entertainer on the stage. She even went down and sang to a guy in the third or fouth row.

Well there's that. I shot Sweeny Todd the other night. And got a few descent shots. Halfway into my shooting though I hit the on off switch to the position between off and on and then for the life of me couldn't figure out why it wouldnt let me switch my aperture off wide open. I didnt figure out that's what it was for a good few minutes.

I just kept shooting I mean I shooting at f/4 isnt like awful or anything I just wanted to bump it to f/5 for a few frames but it's all good. But it was really bone headed of me and i was just baffled because i was like I know I didn't take it off Manual. So anyone who shoots on the 20D and mysteriously your Manual mode is acting like Shutter Priority mode. Check the dang on off switch.

Also another tiny rant about the Sweeny Todd shoot. The PR guy said you'll have 15-20 minutes to shoot. Then comes over and asks if I've gotten enough shots like 5 minutes into the show. And I'm like well its a dark production so not really. The dude had tickets and i understand wanted to watch the show. Ok fine go sit in your seat. I will leave in 15 minutes and if you still see me over there after that taking pictures fine come kick me out. But odds are that wouldnt happen because I dont overstay my welcome. People slay me.

Alright here are some shots.

2008

Well this entry is incredibly non photo related. I've been wanting to post this for a while now. I just never made the time. And this is a bit of a rant. I'm sure quite a few folks can relate to this. So the holiday season which to me basically starts like mid November and extends itself till about January when school finally kicks in.

Well this time of year I'd like to say alot of people are pretty pleasant to deal with. Most are in good moods and nice. There are a few that I'm sure despise everything about the Holidays and I'm sure they have their reasons.

But the one thing that drives me insane. The second any of these nice happy people get in their cars and get on the road they turn into maniacs who are in such a hurry to get everywhere that they don't care how they drive.

I try not to drive that much if I don't have to, because gas prices are so ridiculous now. I can honestly remember when gas was 99 cents a gallon. But on the long trip to Nashville when I got into the state of Tennessee that like one out of five cars did not know how to merge on the highway. I mean seriously is that not a pivotal part of ones driving class? But you know what, you cant always blame the ones getting on. Especially when you have people who on a three lane highway choose to cruise in the right lane and not pay attention to the oncoming ramps. But in the case of the Tennessee drivers it was the oncoming traffic who's fault it was.

Needless to say I was happy to be back in Texas where I know what to expect from drivers here for the most part. And while I didn't go too many places other than to shoots and work still in those short drives just WOW. People cutting you off when they don't have room to do it. Riding your tail even if you are in the right lane doing over the speed limit as it is. Or one better than that someone doing 10 under in the left hand lane. And seriously what's with the not signaling! In Fort Worth on Saturday I saw a BUS a freaking BUS run a red light. It was like a charter bus but still. The light was Red for him very very Red because it was Green for me. I hadn't gotten to it yet fortunately because being broadsided by a Bus really would have ruined my year.

And today there was a guy doing 55 in a 45 and he almost hit the car infront of me because he was weaving through. The holidays are over what's the rush!

I guess the moral of the story is slow down people! I'm not saying go the speed limit necessarily but don't go so fast you're being stupid! Look and signal before you change lanes. And learn to merge.

Ok that's all for my rant about the scary holiday drivers.

I want to see the movie 27 Dresses. I shot Trent Willmon the other night so photos of him soon.

End of the Year!

So tomorrow is New Years Eve. I am ready for 2008. 2007 was great so I'm ready for the trainwreck that 2008 will be because I figure that's how it works right?

Probably the best thing to happen was getting on the Freelancer list with the Star-Telegram. I've gotten to shoot some amazing shows this year and can not wait to see what is in store for next year.

I shot Van Morrison last night but I'm not really all that happy with the photos. Yeah I'm hard on myself. There was no spotlight. He wears this big hat that shades 80 percent of his face most the time. Frankly the photos on Getty aren't any better. So I shouldn't be so hard on myself. I did what I could. I even walked around and switched sides before the 3rd song to see if i could get anything better. Oh well. Cant cry over it. My horoscope that day said "Be satisfied with what you have" so I guess I will just try and do that. I guess in the grand perspective the Cat Power photos might just have been worse. At least with her I could work with the equal dispersion of bad lighting. And Vans wasn't bad it was just badly placed on him. The Guitarist behind him is exposed alright in a couple of them. Granted he's out of focus cause of depth of field. Oh Well they ran one of them so that's that.

So here's to hoping for descent lighting at the shows next year!

But seriously I love when the opening act is someone I love because I get to see their whole set. The rest of the acts I was editing pics to get them in for deadline during the rest of their sets. So here are some photos!

Nashville.. and the Parthenon.

The Parthenon
Originally uploaded by rachelparker
So I was in Nashville a couple weeks ago. And I have been twice before. One time I was sick as a dog and didnt really leave bed after I got there. Way to spend a vacation right? Second time I wasn't there longer than a day. So this time I actually did some touristy crap.

Went to a show at a bar on Printers Alley. As we were going in they had to get more change and no one behind us had exact change either. So we were just chillin in line and the guy literally right behind us waiting to get in as well, was Jon McLaughlin. (scroll down to see some photos of him opening for Kelly Clarkson) Very talented musician and one hell of a piano player. Blu Sanders was a suprise guest at the show incredible songwriter and musician and he also handy with a camera, so I was a tad bit excited he got up there and did a song, Amazing talent man. I was very impressed by Autumn McEntire. I read on her myspace music blog that her husband was Production Manager on the Barnes/Wertz tour. Which scores her automatic bonus points. Cause those boys are amazing. Especially Barnes, but then again I've seen Barnes several times so its hard not to favor him over Wertz. Barnes has an unfair advantage. But they both are so talented. Sorry there's no pictures from that. Didnt want to ruin the vibe of the show with me clicking away, especially since I hadn't seen these artist before.

The next day we went and had lunch at the Cheesecake factory then went to the Opryland hotel and looked at the lights. We went to a concert at the Ryman after that where I know my pro camera wouldnt be allowed and I didn't want to leave it in the car so I left it at the hotel in Brentwood , kind of sad because the lights were really pretty. I have too say The Gaylor Texan wins over the Gaylord Opryland because the Texan does Ice Sculptures.

Concert at the Ryman rocked. If a performer tells you to jump at the Ryman. Unless you're in the front row I dont condone it. Jumping in between pews is not easy. Fortunately I didnt slam my leg into the pew like my friend. The sound inside that venue is really good for the fact its 1000000 years old. I was lame and took earplugs. I've been wearing them alot more lately. Have to say being on a flat floor sucks though cause if you're behind jolly giants and only 5'6" it makes seeing an issue. Nokia Theatre in DFW is still my favorite venue of all time.

So after this show we went on a quest to find food. Not having eaten since lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. Finding food past 10:00PM in Brentwood seems to be an issue. We didnt realize at the time we booked our Hotel that Brentwood is where all the Celebrities live (we learned quickly because the mapquest directions took us through the back way past all the gigantic homes). But we came to the conclusion that the fast food places arent open past 10:00 because celebrities dont eat. That's right. They dont eat. They never want Mcdonalds or something after a late night recording session. Because the calories in a french fry would make them fat and screw up their image. Yes the McDonalds was closed. I thought most McDonalds were now 24 hours. We FINALLY found a Jack in the Box, I dont think it was actually in Brentwood though.

The next day we went to the Parthenon. Well first we went to Bicentennial Park and were informed that the Parthenon was at Centennial Park........... who names parks like that? That's like me saying I will have a park named East Central Park and Central Park. And putting something touristy at one park but not the other. But the nice guy gave us a map. And we got to the other park, where we encountered geese. Yes geese. That wouldn't move. So I just inched my car closer and closer as they waddled slowly out of the way taking their time. This process of me driving like 5 feet took like 10 minutes. Evil Geese. Honking would have been rude and disturbing to them and possibly give them a heart attack. And I'm not cruel.

Anyway here are some photos from the Parthenon. To those who didnt pay attention in world history. The Parthenon was built for the Goddess Athena in Athens, Greece. And inside was a statue of her made of Gold and Ivory. The original Parthenon is being restored. But has seriously taken a beating over the years.
Columns Leo Sculptures

It was a very nice little vacation. The one thing I have to say. Residents of Tennessee do not know how to drive to save their own lives! Merging people! Merging should not be difficult. See to get on the highway you speed up. Not slow down. My favorites over that whole trip were the guy who stopped. Like literally stopped. Thank god this was just going on to the right of me. Had I been behind him I would have been pissed. These people screw the merging for the folks behind them. And then there was the guy who didnt speed up and just figured he'd drive on the shoulder for like half a mile. And the State of Tennessee gave these people licenses. We should worry.

Nashville is fun to visit. But these drivers kill me, I was there for no more than 15 minutes before on the highway a jerk wouldnt let me over but they wanted over into my lane and they were further back than I was but as soon as I turn on my blinker to get in the right lane they speed up. So I finally get over. And then they get over and start to pass so I give the evil eye. And I realize thats nice I probably just gave a celebrity the evil eye and they deserved it. Because it was a Range Rover, Limo Tint, with no license plates on the front or back. I'm there 15 minutes and giving celebs evil looks. Who gave them drivers licenses anyway! They run over people all the time!

But overall I had a great time.

That's all for now. But I did shoot the Mix 102.9 xmas concert Wednesday. I will try and get pics from that up shortly.

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson
Originally uploaded by rachelparker
This was a show I attended. I wasn't there for work.

So I'm just going to copy and paste the review I wrote for a message board and paste it here. It's kinda lengthy. Pictures will be after it.

This is my favorite venue in the area, great size, amazing acoustics. And it almost feels like home when I'm there because I shoot for the paper so I'm there alot to cover concerts. It's pretty sad when all the security knows you by name. After Jon McLaughlin i got rushed by a bunch of friends and fellow expressers/kelly fans. That was fairly amusing. I had a friend there who doesnt do the whole board thing and I went over to talk to her and people kept saying hi to me and she was like "What the heck!" Like I knew her whole row she was sitting in. You had My friend Marisa and her friend (i cant spell her name) Jeremy, OkMom, and OULisa. So that was fairly amusing.

So as some folks know I had front row seat that I happened to get my hands on that day. And that was amazing. Because they let everyone in the first few rows move up right against the stage. And I had a great spot. Kelly kept coming and standing right there during the show. The downside... The blinding light behind her head. But seriously if I was up for trying to be a prankster I could have A. tickled kellys feet. or B. Pantsed her. But I dont pants people and feet freak me out. (random fact you could probably live without.) People pressed in kinda close but when I started Jumping around during One Minute oh they backed up a little bit. I think I was the designated jumping cue for my section. They were kinda followers.

I know Mellerzzz said that its weird when you're front row and you have a camera up to your face the whole time. And I'm a camera whore but it does get kinda odd when you're right there. It's one thing when I'm in your grill for 3 songs. This is like in your grill for the whole show. Yes I do realize my review is all over the place. That's what I do. So I was surprised at how well she sounded. I was expecting her voice to be seriously rough after yesterday. Apparently she got a good swallowing of smoke during that performance because she was too close to the Pyro. She was afraid of falling down because Jill apparently took a heck of a fall last night. Not just a little fall. Jill probably has a bruise like my Hannah Montana battle wound. For that story scroll down. Back to the show. I think I noticed how great she was sounding during Up to the Mountain. Because I could actually hear because its not a big rocked out song. Also I muchly enjoyed the funny dancing during Miss Independent behind the curtain. Chivas was hilarious. No one brought any. Or if they did they didnt get it in. But the faces. I probably got some of the best pictures of the entire show during Chivas. Now I know I'm taking a jump back in the set list (was I really keeping to it honestly? no..) but hop skip back to How I Feel. Awesome moment when she was standing right infront of me blocking the blinding light. And she leans over hinda hovering looking up and then she looks down at me and I'm singing along and she gets wide eyed like the "OH heck yeah youre singing along" kind and like stares me dead in the eye and she's singing and i'm singing along with her and that was freakin cool since its like one of my favorite songs on the My December album and that connection was just cool. image

The band was funny cause they will rock out with anyone that will watch them and sing along at them. I did notice it seemed like Aben was taunting Jill and Kate by singing their part of one of the songs at them. But that has to be the best show I've been to of hers. They all seriously hold a good place. I have favorite cities from each tour. But frankly I dont think even with all the bells and whistles that Nashville can top this.

But anyway! You thought I was done I bet. No not done.

So I go over and steal my friends 7 year old Macentire to take her into the meet and greet with me. And we moseyed on over. Said hi to Psycho Shannon from Kidd Kraddick (for those who dont know because they dont listen to Kidd's show Shannons got a huge crush on Kelly, also to those who dont know, I shoot for their studio sometimes so I wasnt just harassing major radio personalities.) So then went up and plopped down and waited. I chatted with a couple of the fanclubbers while Mac talked to me about the monkey bars. Brian went over the rules. Got to fanclub and he was like "Fanclub has a camera they take your picture with" and then he points at me and goes "I know you know this already" and EVERYONE in the room turns and looks at me. I'm like oh thanks Brian. (I would like to point out I haven't had a meet and greet ever! he does know me though because I encountered him on his first day of the job way back in 2005 in Lubbock. Oh that was fun. Goodtimes.) So of course he points me out and makes everyone stare. But hey I guess I kinda like the attention so that's ok. So he hands out the signed photos. And I laugh because there's a starstruck sticker over the part of it that would say "the firm." I had someone come visit me while I was waiting in the meet and greet room. But it was funny it just drew even more attention to myself.

Well eventually they get to the fanclub and I was somewhere in the middle. Darnit I wanted to go last but that's ok. Didnt matter because I didnt take to much time and not once did Tim rush me. So I say this is Macentire. And mac goes over then I go over there and she hugs me and says "It's good to see you again!" And I say "I know I've met you a billion times and you never remember my name, but it's Rachel" But inside I was saying hey thank god she's realized she's met me before. It was honestly getting kinda sad. Cause I'm not sure that it ever clicked in Kelly's head and I mean that's cool because she meets tons of people. But she nodded and was like "Rachel" (hey maybe she will remember. I'm not holding my breath though.)
So I put together a photo album with some pictures I've taken. Some of her and some of other stuff. Well I hand it to her and she starts flipping thru the pictures of her and I say "Oh it's not all of you." And her response is "Oh so its not completely vain then!!" and I'm like "no because I know you dont like pictures of yourself." And she was like "No I dont!" So she's still looking through it and she gets to this picture of a dragonfly.
Dragonfly
And she says "Who did this?" and I'm like "I took it.." and her response was "Seriously"(insert look of shock and amazement) and I'm all "Yeah seriously" and I go to say "I just started shooting for the paper this year actually." she was like "This looks Amazing, these are my moms favorites she loves Dragonflies" Then I say "Well at least your mom will like it." So then she proceeds to tell me my photos are Awesome. And one of the Security guys there I know chimes in with "They should be since she does it for a living" And I was like "thanks man!" So I wrapped it up gave her a CD with some lesser known and a couple better known artist on it that Kelly will probably dig. Mac took a picture with her. Then I took a picture with her and she hugged me again and said "Thanks for the Art." (Oh yeah that's right my photos are considered art! heck yeah that's a first!) And I said "No problem" and we moseyed on out.

Here are some photos. There are A TON at the flickr. Because frankly I couldnt narrow it down.
